India Reassures Adequacy of Fuel Stocks Amid Misinformation

(MENAFN) The Indian government has reassured the public that the nation’s fuel reserves are sufficient to meet demand for 60 days.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that reports suggesting dwindling oil supplies are false. The ministry stated there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, labeling such stories as “a deliberately mischievous, coordinated campaign of misinformation that is being carried out to spread unjustified panic.”

Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted India’s energy stability on social media, noting: “When the rest of the world has been taking drastic fuel conservation measures such as odd-even, four-day work weeks, school and office closures and increasing fuel prices by 20-30%...India remains an oasis of energy security.”

India, the world’s fourth-largest refiner and fifth-largest petroleum exporter, supplies fuel to over 150 countries. The official Press Information Bureau Factcheck division confirmed that India has a reserve capacity covering 74 days, equating to roughly two months of supply.

“All 1 lakh [100,000]-plus retail fuel outlets across the country are open and dispensing fuel without interruption. Not a single outlet has been asked to ration supply,” the ministry added.
